Who Benefits from Counseling

Although depression is not a normal part of aging, many persons experience heightened levels of sadness, anger and anxiety as they age. Left untreated, these issues can lead to increased physical illness and expense. Common counseling service issues include:

  • Elderly persons living alone without adequate social interaction
  • Persons who live with persistent pain or chronic illness.
  • Having a family history or personal history of depression.
  • Loss of a loved one; grief.
  • Stress from family care-giving.
  • Adjustment to life changes and challenges.
  • Family stressors.

Objectives Counseling

Geriatric Connections provides counseling services in the least restrictive, most comfortable setting available; generally in the home of the elder.

Qualified staff will work with the elder and his/her support persons of choice to develop a plan that centers around the elder’s identified needs and goals.

Increasing the elder’s emotional strength is encouraged by renewing previous coping skills, developing new ones and finding the support necessary to achieve desired goals.
